CAT 6 — Reliable everyday network and 10GbE

Why choose CAT 6?

  • Transmits the maximum speed of a standard fibre internet connection up to 10 Gigabits.
  • Shielded LAN cable with 2 RJ45 plugs and gold-plated contacts.
  • Compatible with PoE up to 100W thanks to 26 AWG copper conductors and certified wiring.
  • Complies with ANSI/TIA 568 C.2 / ANSI/TIA-568-D requirements.

Key technical points

  • 100% copper — no CCA (no copper-clad aluminium).
  • 10 GbE consistent and error-free.
  • Shielding: minimises NEXT and protects against EMI/RFI.
  • 50-micron gold-plated connectors for clear signal and corrosion resistance.
  • Snagless connector for easier installation.
  • Structure: 4 STP pairs • PVC • 26 AWG copper.

Recommended for: fibre box, connected TV, remote work, NAS, IP cameras, VoIP phones and stable home networks.

CAT 7 — Reinforced shielding and more demanding networks

Why choose CAT 7?

  • 100% oxygen-free bare copper conductor (OFC) — no CCA.
  • S/FTP PiMF shielding: each pair individually shielded + overall braid. Up to 600 MHz.
  • 10 Gbit/s over short to medium distances, ideal for high-interference environments.
  • Compatible with PoE / PoE+ / PoE++ thanks to pure copper and 26 AWG gauge.
  • Complies with ISO/IEC 11801, EN 50173, ANSI/TIA-568-C.2.

Recommended for: structured cabling, offices, networks with interference, long PoE runs, semi-professional installations.

CAT 8 — Ultra-high speed and advanced backbone

Why choose CAT 8?

  • Up to 40 Gbit/s and 2000 MHz of bandwidth.
  • 25GBASE-T and 40GBASE-T standards for the most demanding links.
  • Reinforced S/FTP shielding, pure copper conductors.
  • Backwards compatible with CAT 6 / CAT 7 and all existing RJ45 equipment.
  • Ideal for 10G switches, 10G NAS and high-performance home backbone.

Recommended for: home backbone, 10G switch, fast NAS, extreme streaming, 25/40GbE future-proofing.

Extreme speed

Up to 40 Gbit/s — the fastest Ethernet cable available for home and semi-pro installations.

Future-proof

Compatible with 25GBASE-T and 40GBASE-T. A long-lasting network investment, backwards compatible with all previous standards.

FAQ — Ethernet cables

1CAT 6, CAT 7, CAT 8: which one to choose?
  • CAT 6: the best value for money for 90% of home uses (fibre box, TV, PC, NAS, PoE).
  • CAT 7: if you have interference (structured cabling, proximity to electrical cables) or need long-distance PoE+.
  • CAT 8: for backbone links, 10G switch, fast NAS or to prepare a 25/40G network.
2Is CAT 6 enough for 10 Gigabit?
Yes. Elfcam CAT 6 supports 10GbE up to about 55 metres. For most home installations, that is more than enough.
3What is the difference between shielded (STP) and unshielded (UTP)?
All Elfcam cables are shielded. The shielding protects against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk (NEXT). CAT 7 offers additional per-pair shielding (PiMF) for the most demanding environments.
4Are these cables PoE compatible?
Yes. All three categories support PoE (Power over Ethernet) thanks to their pure copper conductors. CAT 6 supports up to 100W, CAT 7 is certified PoE++.
5Flat or round cable?
Flat: easy to run under doors, along skirting boards, more discreet. Round: better mechanical protection, ideal for conduit runs or suspended ceilings. Both offer the same electrical performance.
6What is the recommended maximum length?
For Gigabit (1 Gbps), all three categories support up to 100 m. For 10G, the distance depends on the category: CAT 6 ≈ 55 m, CAT 7 ≈ 15 m, CAT 8 ≈ 30 m.
7Are the connectors gold-plated?
Yes. All Elfcam cables use 50-micron gold-plated RJ45 connectors for clear signal, corrosion resistance and increased durability.
8Is CAT 8 backwards compatible?
Yes. CAT 8 is 100% backwards compatible with all existing RJ45 equipment (CAT 5e, CAT 6, CAT 7). You will automatically benefit from the maximum speed supported by your equipment.
