Sandaya Camping — Multi-zone connectivity across a large outdoor site
Sandaya is a premium camping group operating in France and across Europe, offering a variety of accommodation — tent pitches, mobile homes, chalets, swimming pools, restaurants and leisure areas. These sprawling sites, often located in rural or remote areas, present specific networking challenges that are very different from an office infrastructure.
Connecting an entire Sandaya campsite requires ensuring a reliable network connection across the whole site — including remote areas such as tent pitches, private beaches and green spaces — while absorbing peak loads in the high season, managing the administrative network and withstanding the constraints of a demanding outdoor environment.
A campsite network infrastructure must serve two distinct audiences simultaneously: holidaymakers who want to stay connected, and staff who manage payments, bookings and video surveillance over the same network.
Four constraints specific to outdoor deployment
Dead zones across a large multi-zone area — Sandaya campsites cover several hectares with varied and remote areas. Without a fibre backbone between the technical buildings and the distribution points, some zones had no usable WiFi coverage.
Peak load in high season — in July and August, hundreds of holidaymakers connect simultaneously for video streaming, video calls or remote working. The infrastructure had to absorb these peaks without any noticeable degradation in service quality.
Dual-use network: holidaymakers and administration — the same physical network had to support consumer uses (Internet, social networks) and the campsite's mission-critical flows (payment terminals, reservation software, IP video surveillance cameras).
Harsh outdoor environment for cables — the inter-building links run outdoors and must withstand humidity, UV, temperature variations and above all rodents — a critical constraint on natural sites in rural areas.
G.657.A2 SC/APC fibre backbone, 10G SFP+ PoE switch and BiDi modules
The solution is based on a single-mode G.657.A2 outdoor fibre optic cable pre-terminated with SC/APC between the campus buildings. G.657.A2 fibre was chosen for its flexibility (ideal for tight bends during installation) and its reinforced sheath resistant to humidity, UV and rodents — unavoidable constraints on an outdoor site.
In each technical room, an Elfcam 10G SFP+ PoE switch handles distribution: connected to the NRO via a 10G SC single-mode BiDi SFP+ module, it powers the WiFi access points and IP surveillance cameras over PoE without requiring local electrical supply for each device.
Complete coverage, 10G throughput and an operational network in every season
The deployment of G.657.A2 SC/APC outdoor fibre optic cables, 10G BiDi SFP+ modules and 10G SFP+ PoE switches enabled Sandaya to achieve full network coverage across the entire site, with a 10 Gbps backbone capable of absorbing high-season peaks. The WiFi and video surveillance equipment is powered over PoE without any additional electrical cabling.

The Sandaya infrastructure combines armoured G.657.A2 SC/APC outdoor fibre for inter-building links, 10G SC single-mode BiDi SFP+ modules for the NRO connection, and a 10G SFP+ PoE switch for WiFi and video surveillance distribution.
