Hotenet — Telecom and video surveillance infrastructure for hospitality

Hotenet is an integrator specialised in telecommunications, WiFi and television solutions for the hospitality industry. The company handles the design, supply and installation of network infrastructure in environments where acoustic discretion matters as much as technical performance.

As part of a multi-storey hotel project, Hotenet had to equip a property with 3 floors including around 20 IP cameras and 40 WiFi access points powered over PoE. The project's central constraint: an entirely silent network — a critical requirement in a hotel environment — while remaining scalable for future upgrades.

After comparing several suppliers on price and quality, Hotenet entered into a long-term cooperation with Elfcam for the supply of active and passive equipment.

Four constraints to solve for this hotel deployment

Silent network with no fans — in a hotel, noisy active equipment is unacceptable. Every switch at the access and aggregation layers had to operate fanless, with no compromise on performance.

PoE power for 60 devices across 3 floors — 20 IP cameras and 40 WiFi APs required reliable PoE power on every floor. The topology had to deliver enough power budget without oversizing the infrastructure.

Fibre backbone between technical rooms — inter-floor links and connections to the server room had to use fibre optic to avoid electromagnetic interference and ensure stable Gigabit speeds over long distances.

Scalability for future upgrades — the property planned to expand its camera fleet and connected services. The architecture had to anticipate these extensions without requiring a complete network overhaul.

Fanless OLT switches, OS2 fibre and flat Ethernet cabling in rooms

To meet the need for a silent and scalable network, the Elfcam team proposed a two-tier architecture: OLT switches at the aggregation layer (server room) and fanless SFP switches at the access layer (per floor). Inter-tier links use armoured SC/APC OS2 fibre optic cables with 1.25G SFP modules for stable Gigabit connectivity.

In rooms and common areas, distribution cabling relies on flat Cat 7 Ethernet cables — discreet, easy to route under skirting boards and carpets without invasive work, ideal for hotel refurbishment.
