Choosing your optical terminal for your installation

The right product depends on the number of fibres to terminate, the connector type and the installation scenario.

PTO only

SC/APC termination socket

Compact wall-mounted box with 1 to 4 SC/APC ports. Connects the incoming fibre to your internal equipment (box, converter, switch).

  • Ref 2658 — SC/APC PTO with 1, 2 or 4 ports
PTO + cable kit

Fibre cable + integrated PTO

All-in-one solution: pre-terminated SC/APC fibre cable with PTO box. Ideal for relocating the termination point without splicing.

  • Ref 3689 — SC/APC cable + PTO
  • Ref 27479 — FTTH LC/APC kit + PTO
Distribution box

Multi-fibre FTTH box

For buildings and multi-subscriber installations. Accepts PLC splitters and splice cassettes.

Why choose Elfcam optical terminals

Role of a PTO in the FTTH network

The optical termination point (PTO) is the demarcation point between the operator's network and the customer's internal installation. It provides:

  • Clean connection: the incoming fibre is terminated in a compact, protected wall-mounted box.
  • Test point: the installer can measure optical power directly at the PTO.
  • Flexibility: option to connect a box, converter or fibre switch downstream.
  • Protection: splices and fibre loops are protected inside the box.

Advantages of Elfcam PTOs

  • Simple wall mounting: screw or adhesive fixing, removable cover for quick maintenance.
  • Pre-polished connectors: SC/APC and LC/APC with insertion loss < 0.3 dB.
  • Integrated splice cassette: protected storage for fibre splices.
  • Operator-compatible: Orange, Free, SFR, Bouygues — standard French FTTH format.
  • Compact design: discreet, blends into any environment (home, office, technical room).
Residential use case
  • Relocate the fibre socket from entrance to living room
  • Create a second fibre point for an office
  • Replace a damaged PTO
Professional use case
  • Termination point in a technical room
  • FTTH distribution in a building
  • Network rack connection

FAQ — Optical terminal (PTO)

1What is a PTO and what is it for?
The optical termination point (PTO) is the wall-mounted box that marks the boundary between the operator's fibre network and your internal installation. This is where you plug in your fibre box or your converter.
2PTO only or cable + PTO kit: how to choose?
  • PTO only (ref 2658): if the fibre is already pulled and you just want to add or replace the termination box.
  • Cable + PTO kit (ref 3689, 27479): if you need to relocate the termination point — the pre-terminated cable avoids splicing.
3Can I relocate my PTO myself?
Yes, with a cable + PTO kit (ref 3689 or 27479). You extend the fibre from the existing PTO to the new location, without splicing. The connection is made by simply plugging into an SC/APC coupler.
4Are Elfcam PTOs compatible with all operators?
Yes. The format is standard French FTTH — compatible with Orange, Free, SFR and Bouygues Telecom. The SC/APC connector is universal on FTTH networks in France.
5How many ports does a PTO have?
The Elfcam PTO (ref 2658) is available with 1 port, 2 ports and 4 ports SC/APC. For a standard home, 1 or 2 ports are enough. 4 ports for installations with several fibre devices.
6What's the difference between SC/APC and LC/APC on a PTO?
SC/APC (green connector): standard for operator FTTH networks in France — this is what your fibre box typically uses. LC/APC: more compact, used for connections to switches or SFP modules. The ref 27479 kit uses LC/APC duplex.
7Do I need a fusion splicer to install a PTO?
No, if you use a pre-terminated cable + PTO kit (ref 3689, 27479). The connection is made via a simple coupler. Yes, if you install a PTO on a bare fibre — in that case, you need to splice a pigtail. See our fibre pigtails.
8What is the delivery time?
All products are in stock and shipped within 24h (business days). Chronopost next-day delivery for mainland France. Orders placed before 2pm are shipped the same day.
